Compliance
What 16 CFR 1633 asks.
What we hand you.
Plain answers on the federal open-flame rule, California's fiberglass ban, and the exact paperwork a barrier supplier owes you.
The federal rule
1633 tests the mattress, not the sock.
16 CFR 1633 is the CPSC's open-flame standard for mattresses and mattress sets. Two propane burners hit the top of the mattress for 70 seconds and the side for 50 seconds, and the mattress is watched for 30 minutes.
To pass, peak heat release must stay under 200 kW, and total heat release under 15 MJ in the first 10 minutes. The barrier is usually what makes or breaks that result, but the foam, coils, glue and ticking all add fuel.
That's why there's no such thing as a "1633-certified sock." Your prototype has to pass with the sock inside it. Separately, 16 CFR 1632 covers cigarette ignition.
Your prototype record
What your file needs from us.
Each qualified prototype has to be documented, and the record identifies the materials in the build. For the FR barrier, that means its fiber content, thickness or weight, FR method, and the supplier's name and address.
For FireSocks, that's silica-encased rayon knit, inherently flame resistant, with no topical FR treatment and no fiberglass. We send the full details with your samples, in one PDF formatted to drop straight into the record. When you place a production order, every carton carries a lot number that ties back to its yarn and knit run, so your quality-control plan can show that production matches the prototype.
California's fiberglass ban starts January 1, 2027.
AB 1059 bans textile fiberglass in mattresses and their components sold in California. On the same date, non-foam layers such as thermal barrier fabrics lose their exemption from the state's FR-chemical rules.
If your current barrier contains fiberglass, you'll need to qualify a replacement before then. FireSocks contain no textile fiberglass and no topical FR chemicals.

What we won't say
No overpromises.
We won't tell you a sock is "certified," because the rule doesn't work that way. We won't quote burn results for a build we haven't tested. And we won't call anything "fireproof." Every claim on this site is one we can back with a document.
